The Cosmos Adventure - News
December 17, 2001 Cosmos Don Kilpatrick Report from New ZealandFrom the Quiet One
Leg one of the Cosmos Circumnavigation is over and I am once again ashore. I left Captain Joe and 1st mate George at the Capthorne Hotel on Quay Street in Auckland on the 9th of December at 0530 to pick up Betty at the Airport. We will be spending the next several weeks land cruising in New Zealand and Australia.
I started to write my last article for the web site after we cleared in Opua, New Zealand. However, it seems that cruising the Bay of Islands took priority and I forgot about the article.
I first want to thank Captain Joe for inviting me along on leg one. The trip (about 7000 miles) from Panama over the past 151 days over the "Coconut Milk Run" of the Pacific proved to be a real "piece of cake" and we have eaten the whole thing. From my reception at the Yacht Club in Colon, Panama to Whangarei, New Zealand, the trip has been an adventure, exciting, enjoyable, filled with beautiful sunsets and sunrises, blue water, fantastic anchorages, and friendly helpful people.
I will always cherish the memories of the times spent aboard Cosmos with Joe and George. May Cosmos' Captain and crew have fair winds and following seas throughout the remainder of her circumnavigation.
