Most Valuable Crew Member by Emily Dorr

Note:  The following was presented by Emily Dorr during a welcome home party for Cosmos and its crew held at The Maryland Inn on May 10, 2003.

I have heard it mentioned that this voyage undertaken is a once in a  lifetime event, one that Captain Joe and his crew should be proud of.  I have also been asked how Dad could manage all of the tasks that a circumnavigation involves.  Well I know Dad  -- and as many of us know, he has a way of making even the most difficult of assignments seem easy.  However, it is with great insight that I know he has not accomplished this adventure alone.  He has had the support of a hard working and ever-revolving crew.

One crew member has been present for the entire journey and risen to the occasion every time she was called upon.  Scheduling delivery of parts, on occasion updating the library of DVDs, and affectionately supplying Captain Joe with his favorite hot beverage -- hot chocolate.  Although half-hitches and bowlines are not vocabulary she often uses, it is her selfless support of Dad's dreams that make Mom one valuable crew member.
